An online store wired directly into existing counter billing, so stock never disagreed between web and shop.
The chain ran six outlets on a billing system with no online component. Their first attempt at eCommerce had been abandoned because web stock and counter stock drifted apart within days.
We built the store against the billing database as the single source of truth, with scheduled synchronisation and a reconciliation report for the accounts team.
The Challenge & The Solution
The billing software had no API. Stock accuracy across six outlets was the whole commercial requirement — a store that oversold would be worse than no store.
A synchronisation layer read from the billing database on a short interval and reserved web stock at checkout, with a daily reconciliation report flagging mismatches.
Outcome
Online orders now fulfil from real stock, and the accounts team reconciles web and counter sales in one report.
